Project #37 Anne-Sophie Tschiegg Mushrooms

Anne Sophie Tschiegg is an artist living in Salsbourg, France. Her exhuberant paintings of landscapes, portraits and often mushrooms are full of saturated colors and loose, bold paintstrokes.

For this project we are focusing on the mushroom paintings and collages.  Below are some of Tschiegg's mushroom paintings.  Notice the combination of earthy tones and bright colors and how well they work together.

Here you can see the scale of Tschiegg's paintings in her studio.  Some are very small intimate paintings and others large enough to be seen across the room.

Besides the oil paintings on canvas, Tschiegg paints mushrooms on paper.  She then cuts the mushrooms out using both the negative and positive papers to create a collage on a mostly white background.  The result is something that you might call a deconstructed collage.

Below are examples of high school student collage and painting done with acrylic on paper.

You can find images of mushrooms to draw and paint from at the library or on the internet.
