Project #16 Tissue Paper Paintings

Tissue paper paintings are fun and easy.  Great for young students and adults as well.

You can create something like the artwork above which is two photographs printed on tissue paper and carefully applied to a piece of paper with laundry starch.  This only works if you have a printer that will print on different surfaces.  I carefully taped down stiff white tissue paper onto a piece of printer paper.  You will need to know what side of the paper the printer prints on before hand and feed the papers into the printer the correct way.

Or using a variety of commercial colored and printed tissue papers. Tear or cut pieces of the tissue and apply them to a piece of paper or other other surface with liquid starch.

To apply the starch paint it on the surface that you are adhering the tissue to, lay the tissue in place and carefully paint over the tissue with starch to smooth it and create a strong contact.

If you want to create something with a lot of detail, sketch your design lightly with pencil before you add the tissue paper and draw on top of the tissue paper with sharpies or design markers after the starch dries.

It is not easy to find liquid laundry starch in stores now.  You may have to order it online through Amazon or another source.
