Children's Art Classes at Lafayette Art and Crafts Center Summer 2022

 

I am very excited to be teaching some children's art classes this June and July through the city of Tallahassee at the Lafayette Park Arts and Crafts Center.  The history of the building and the grounds is special.  The land was part of the land grant given to the Marquis de Lafayette for his part in the American Revolutionary war by the new union of states.  The small portion of the original land grant which was dedicated to the park and community center is now in a midtown neighborhood.  The park has a trail winding through lovely trees and native plantings, there is a recreational area for children and adults and the community center which houses among other things an art and ceramic studio.  

The building itself was a 20th C bowling alley beautifully rehabbed to fit its current purpose.  

This June and July I will be teaching two sessions of a variety of courses:  Drawing and Painting, Little Bits of Everything (Mixed-media) and Sewing combined with Recycled Art.

We will be working on drawings like the one above on mylar, painting on Yupo and paper in the Drawing/Painting class.  We will also do a little bit of printmaking.

We will create objects with recycled containers, cardboard and a myriad of found objects and materials adding weaving, embroidering and hand stitching.  Those objects can be art panels, containers, jewelry, bags - wherever the students imagination takes them. 

In the Little Bits of Everything (Mixed-Media) class we will use paper, textiles, found objects and made forms to create wall panels and/or sculptures.

We will look at and learn about different artists' work, such as Hannelore Baron, Louise Nevelson, Mimmo Rotella, Helen O'Leary, Georgio Morandi and Isreal Hershberg.
